Trinity World Mission Annual Report

January 3, 2010

The first year of Trinity World Mission (TWM) work has been a busy one. By following the model of St. Mary Anne’s world mission work, and that of Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD), we learned about and contributed to the Millennium Development Goal (MDGs) of cutting extreme world poverty in half by 2015. The MDGs define that 0.7% of the world’s wealth is all that is required to accomplish this goal. Relative to Trinity’s annual budget, we exceeded that mark this year. We estimate that we contributed approximately $1500 to MDG-related programs in 2009.

As our TWM Mission Statement summarizes, we have worked “To help those in need outside our community from our relative abundance of treasure, occasional commitment of time and continual contribution of prayer.”

What did we accomplish this year?

  • Called for prayer and individual contributions to support Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza, stuck in the middle of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict last winter
  • Contributed to Bishop Shand’s Clean Water initiative, raising $420 to help build a well in a poor community - www.dioceseofeaston.org/ESE December08.pdf
  • Participated in the St. Mary Anne’s Heifer International fund raiser dinner to raise over $2,000 – enough to support 13 families by providing one heifer, four sheep and four llamas – www.heifer.org
  • Created a web page on the Trinity website to show those shopping for a church that we care about helping the world’s poor – www.trinityelkton.org
  • Supported fair trade by selling arts and crafts from SERRV at the Elkton Fall Fest and in the Parish Hall during Trinity Yard Sale Weekend - www.serrv.org
  • Held a coffee hour featuring fair trade coffee, including information on how people can buy it on their own - www.er-d.org/BishopsBlend
  • Held a World Missions Awareness Dinner to celebrate our successes throughout the year in ending poverty and raised $650 to provide treated bed nets to families in sub-Saharan Africa to protect 162 people from deadly malaria through the Nets for Life program - www.netsforlifeafrica.org

As ERD summarizes so well, thank you all for your support to eradicate world poverty through your Prayer, Learning, Giving and Action.

Yours in Christ,

Wendy and Rich Gilbert
Trinity World Mission Coordinators
